Before you begin
Asset templates are defined so that you can have all of your locations add assets in the same format using the template. Creating a template lets you control which information you want to track on your assets, e.g., make, model, serial number, etc.
Asset templates can be created at the content group level so that all of your locations use the same template. This ensures that every location is tracking the same information about each asset. For more information on modes in Jolt, see the article Location Mode vs. Content Group Mode in Jolt.
Once you create a template, you can add assets into each location and then assign them to work orders.
How many asset templates you need depends on how granular you want to be in your tracking. For example, you could use one generic template to track all kinds of assets. But if you are tracking grills and trucks, you may want to create a separate template for each asset type because the information you will be tracking will likely be quite different.
Adding Asset Templates
To set up an asset template, take the following steps:
Navigate to Asset Management in content group mode.
On the Jolt Web Portal, navigate to Lists | Asset Management.
Add a new template
Click on the Templates tab to see your list of asset templates.
Click the blue Plus button in the top right.
Click on the template name in the top left and give it a name.
Click the Done button.
Add fields to the template
Click the Add Item button on the left.
Select one of the item types
Add an item for each piece of information you want to track on your assets. For example, you could add a text item for “manufacturer”, “model”, “serial number”, etc. If you have a person that is in charge of assets, you could add a person item and select them from a list of users in Jolt when the asset is entered in.
Important: Jolt will prompt users to give the asset a unique name when it is added to Jolt. So you don’t have to add an item for the asset name.
The name is how the asset is identified in the UI so it must be unique so everyone knows exactly which asset they are looking at.
