Updating the JPSLauncher/Jolt app on a JPS device

This guide will walk you through either downloading an update to your Jolt Launcher or Jolt application.

**PLEASE NOTE, THE FOLLOWING IS INTENDED ONLY FOR A JPS DEVICE. FOR ALL OTHER SHARED OR PERSONAL DEVICES, PLEASE UPDATE DIRECTLY THROUGH THE PLAY STORE OR ITUNES STORE **

Here’s how to do it:

  1. Open the System Dashboard:

    • Slide down from the top of the screen twice to open the system dashboard.

    • Tap the gear icon to open Settings. On newer devices, you might need to swipe down about 1 inch from the top-right corner of the screen. The gear icon will be located in the bottom third of the buttons, to the right of the Power button.

  2. Access App Settings:

    • Tap on “Apps & notifications.” On newer versions, this might just be labeled “Apps.”

    • Tap “SEE ALL __ APPS” and find Chrome in the list. Tap on it.

  3. Allow Installation from Unknown Sources:

    • In the “App info” screen, scroll down to “Install unknown apps” and tap it.

    • On the next screen, you’ll see a switch labeled “Allow from this source.” Turn this switch on

  4. Enable Chrome:

    • Go back to the “App info” screen for Chrome.

    • At the top, tap the “Enable” button.

  5. This will make “Open” and “Disable” buttons appear. Tap “Open.


    Update the Jolt App:

    In Chrome’s URL bar, type in jps.jolt.com and press Enter.

Tap the “Update Jolt” tile, then select “Download the Jolt.” It may ask you if you want to download "Download.apk", go ahead and press download

  • if prompted, select open to run the application.

  • If you don't get prompted, you may need to go to your downloads page in Chrome. To do that, click on the three dot menu:

  • Select Downloads

  • once the file is finished downloading, tap on the "Download.apk file" option

  • If you receive an error of "App not installed" immediately after installing the updated Jolt app, please follow the instructions in the "Clear Storage" section of jps.jolt.com to clear the cache and storage for the JPSLauncher, which should resolve the issue. or you can go to this page



    Update the Launcher:

  • In Chrome’s URL bar, type in jps.jolt.com and press Enter.

  • Tap the “Update Launcher” tile, then select “Download the Launcher.” Once the download is complete, a window will pop up. Select “Open,” and then choose either “Install” or “Update” on the next window.

  • If you receive an error of "App not installed" immediately after installing the updated JPSLauncher app, please follow the instructions in the "Clear Storage" section of jps.jolt.com to clear the cache and storage for the JPSLauncher, which should resolve the issue.

    ​** NOTE, While you can follow the same steps to manually download and install the updated Jolt app by choosing "Update Jolt" on jps.jolt.com, it is recommended to allow the JPSLauncher to download the update itself due to certain checks and error corrections that can prevent failed installs, particularly with slower internet connections. This process could take several hours depending on your internet speed and stability. **

    (Optional) Return Chrome to Original State:

  • After the installation is complete, go back to the Chrome “App info” screen in Settings.

  • Tap “Disable” to return Chrome to its original state.

And that’s it! You’ve manually installed the latest Launcher on your device which will then fetch the latest version of the Jolt app and make sure it successfully updates.
