JPS - How to Update Printer Firmware

How to update your printer firmware version for your JPS device.

WAIT - these instructions only apply to JPS units and not standalone printers.


Before getting started

  1. Turn off the power to the printer that doesn't need to be updated (if you have 2)

  2. Make sure the printer that does need to be updated is turned on.

Basic steps (see detailed steps below):

  • Turn off the printer that doesn't need to be updated

  • Make sure the printer that needs to be updated is turned on

  • Go to jps.jolt.com

  • Download the Zebra Updating Tool AND the Zebra Firmware

  • Install and run the Zebra Updating Tool

  • Send the update to the printer

  • Uninstall the Zebra Updating Tool

Please check to verify the printer model number on your JPS Printer. Only the Zebra ZD411 needs to have a firmware update when replacing a printhead. The model number will be displayed on the control panel of the device, pictured here:

Step 1 - Navigate to JPS.JOLT.COM from your jps display

  1. on your JPS display, open the system dashboard

    1. Slide down from the top of the screen twice to open the system dashboard.

    2. Tap the gear icon to open Settings. On newer devices, you might need to swipe down about 1 inch from the top-right corner of the screen. The gear icon will be located in the bottom third of the buttons, to the right of the Power button.

  2. Access App Settings:

    1. Tap on "apps and notifications" or "applications" on newer versions.

    2. select "SEE ALL_APPS"

  3. Enable and Open Chrome

    1. Go to the “App info” screen for Chrome

    2. At the top, tap the “Enable” button.

    3. then you can OPEN chrome

  4. Go to jps.jolt.com

    1. in Chrome's URL bar, type in jps.jolt.com and press enter


Step 2 - Download the Zebra Updating Tool

  1. At jps.jolt.com select the Update Printer Firmware tile

  2. Press the corresponding links to download the Zebra Updating Tool and Zebra firmware

It may ask you if you want to download this file, or that the file may be "unsafe", go ahead and press download - those messages are intended to warn you when you are installing something from external sources.

  • if prompted, select open to run the application.

  • If you don't get prompted, you may need to go to your downloads page in Chrome. To do that, click on the three dot menu:

  • Select Downloads

  • once the file is finished downloading, tap on the "zebra.printersetup-signed.apk"

  • go ahead and install:


Step 3 - Use the Zebra updating utility

  1. verify that the printer listed has the same serial number as the serial number listed on your Jolt printer.

  2. select Available Files

  3. in your file explorer window you'll see the firmware downloaded during step 2 - if you don't see the firmware as pictured, please visit Jps.jolt.com and re-download the Zebra firmware

  4. select the option to Send to printer

  5. this step may take up to 15 minutes to complete, while the update is running, please do not exit or close the firmware utility.


Step 4 - Test print, then uninstall the printer setup tool

  1. Run a test print on your printer, by going to your labels menu in Jolt > then you can print a label of the appropriate size for your printer.

  2. if the print is correct, please uninstall the printer setup tool

To do that:

  1. go back to the apps and notification menu as described in step 1

  2. select the printer setup application, and select UNINSTALL
