JPS - How to Update Printer Firmware

How to update the firmware on your JPS printer device. Step-by-step guide for downloading and installing the latest firmware version to fix bugs and improve performance.

WAIT - these instructions only apply to JPS units and not standalone printers.


Before getting started

  1. Turn off the power to the printer that doesn't need to be updated (if you have 2)

  2. Make sure the printer that does need to be updated is turned on.

Basic steps (see detailed steps below):

  • Turn off the printer that doesn't need to be updated

  • Make sure the printer that needs to be updated is turned on

  • Go to jps.jolt.com

  • Download the Zebra Updating Tool AND the Zebra Firmware

  • Install and run the Zebra Updating Tool

  • Send the update to the printer

  • Uninstall the Zebra Updating Tool

Please check to verify the printer model number on your JPS Printer. Only the Zebra ZD411 needs to have a firmware update when replacing a printhead. The model number will be displayed on the control panel of the device, pictured here:

Step 1 - Navigate to JPS.JOLT.COM from your jps display

  1. on your JPS display, open the system dashboard

    1. Slide down from the top of the screen twice to open the system dashboard.

    2. Tap the gear icon to open Settings.

  2. Access App Settings and enable Chrome

  3. Go to jps.jolt.com in Chrome's URL bar


Step 2 - Download the Zebra Updating Tool

  1. At jps.jolt.com select the Update Printer Firmware tile

  2. Press the corresponding links to download the Zebra Updating Tool and Zebra firmware


Step 3 - Use the Zebra updating utility

  1. Verify the printer serial number matches

  2. Select Available Files and choose the firmware downloaded in step 2

  3. Select the option to Send to printer — this may take up to 15 minutes


Step 4 - Test print, then uninstall the printer setup tool

  1. Run a test print on your printer via the labels menu in Jolt

  2. If the print is correct, go back to Apps and uninstall the printer setup application
