Configuring and Recording Data from Sensors in Lists

This article explains how to configure a measurement item on a list to record data from your sensors.

Prerequisites

  1. Ensure you have an active sensor and gateway configured in Jolt.

  2. Verify that Jolt is receiving regular sensor readings from the gateway.

Setting Up a List with a Sensor Item

  1. Log into the Jolt Web Portal

    • Navigate to Sensors.

  2. Identify the Sensor

    • Note the name of the sensor you want to connect to.

  3. Navigate to Edit Lists

    • Go to Edit Lists and select the list you want to add the sensor item to.

  4. Add a Measurement Item

    • Add a measurement item to the list.

  5. Configure Input Methods

    • Scroll down to the Available Input Methods area.

    • Check the Sensor option.

      • Note: It is best practice to allow a backup input method. Jolt recommends checking the Manual Input and/or Temperature Probe options as well.

      • If only Sensor is selected, only a device admin can input a manual reading if the sensor reading is unavailable.

    • In the Select Sensor dropdown, select the name of the sensor you noted earlier.

    • Save the list.

Recording a Sensor Reading in a List

  1. Navigate to the Configured List

    • Go to the list you configured the sensor for.

  2. Record the Sensor Reading

    • The sensor item will display the sensor input method icon.

    • Tap the Record button to fetch the latest sensor reading.

    • Once the temperature has been recorded, the item shows the temperature reading and is marked complete.

  3. Change the Input Method

    • Tap the Input Method icon (sensor, probe, manual) to open the Input Method Switcher tray at the bottom.

    • Tap another available input method to switch and record the temperature.

      • Note: Switching to the Probe input method takes you through the normal probe screens for recording temperature.

    • The input method is recorded when the item is submitted and is displayed in reports.

Additional Information

  • If a sensor is offline when the list is displayed, the Record button is disabled, and “Sensor Unavailable” appears in the reading box. You can switch to another allowed input method to record a temperature.

  • Only device admins can enter readings manually when the measurement item calls for a sensor or probe and manual input is not an available input option.

  • The sensor item will show a low battery alert icon and a poor signal alert icon when either of those conditions are detected on the sensor.

  • When the probe workflow is launched, it defaults to the probe screen rather than the manual entry screen.

By following these steps, you can effectively configure and record data from sensors in lists, ensuring accurate and timely data collection.
