Single-User vs. Multi-User Device Modes in Jolt

The Jolt app offers two operational modes: Single-User Device and Multi-User Device. Each mode is optimized for different use cases. This guide will help you choose the best configuration for your needs.

Summary

  • Single-User Device: Designed for individual users. The device remains logged in with the user’s credentials and permissions.

  • Multi-User Device: Designed for shared devices. Prompts for individual log-ins for each user with the appropriate permissions.

Single-User Device Mode

Purpose: Ideal for users who are the sole operators of a device. The device stays connected with the user’s login credentials, allowing seamless access across authorized locations without needing to scan QR codes.

Features:

  • Continuous Login: User stays logged in and doesn’t need to re-enter a PIN.

  • Location Access: Easily switch between authorized locations. The initial sync is required for each new location.

  • Push Notifications: Receive targeted push notifications.

Setup:

  1. Download Jolt: Install and launch the Jolt app on your device.

  2. Login: Enter your username (email) and password.

  3. Select Location: Choose the location you want to connect to.

  4. Mode Selection: Choose Single-User Device mode and complete the setup.

Managing Devices:

  • Sign Out: Tap the user avatar icon and select Sign Out to remove all Jolt data from the device.

  • Deactivate Users: Deactivate the user in the Web Portal and their device in the Settings | Devices section.

  • Continuous access with no need to log in/out.

  • Switch between locations effortlessly.

  • Automated security based on roles and permissions.

  • Easy to revoke access for terminated employees.

Multi-User Device Mode

Purpose: Ideal for devices shared by multiple users. Each user logs in with a PIN to access their specific permissions.

Features:

  • PIN Login: Users log in with a PIN.

  • Automatic Logout: Device can log users out after inactivity.

  • No Push Notifications: Role-specific push notifications are not sent.

Setup:

  1. Download Jolt: Install and launch the Jolt app on the device.

  2. Login: An authorized user (Device or Location Admin) logs in with credentials.

  3. Select Location: Choose the location and select Multi-User Device mode.

  4. Sync: Complete the initial sync.

Usage:

  • Users log in with their PIN to complete tasks.

  • Device remains logged in for quick access.
