How to Replace a Bluetooth Temperature & Humidity Sensor Battery

If the battery in your Bluetooth Temperature & Humidity Sensor is losing charge, follow these steps to replace it with a new one. These instructions apply to older Bluetooth sensors; if you're using newer LoRaWAN sensors, refer to their specific battery replacement instructions.

Static Discharge Warning

When replacing the battery in a Bluetooth sensor, it’s important to handle the circuit board carefully to prevent damage from static electricity. Follow these precautions:

  • Avoid Direct Contact: Handle only the edges of the circuit board or the metal battery terminal.

  • Electrically Ground Yourself: Discharge static electricity by touching a metal object connected to the ground, such as a metal table or appliance.

  • Avoid Static-Prone Clothing: Wear non-static clothing, and avoid materials like fuzzy or woolen fabrics.

Supplies Needed

  • #1 and #2 Phillips Screwdrivers

  • CR2450 3V Lithium Coin Battery (Available on the Jolt Shopping Cart)

  • Thin Wooden or Plastic Tool (e.g., popsicle stick or plastic knife)

Battery Replacement Steps

  1. Open the Sensor Case

    • Use the #2 Phillips screwdriver to remove the two outer screws from the sensor case.

    • Gently open the sensor case.

  2. Remove the Circuit Board

    • Use the #1 Phillips screwdriver to unscrew the small screw (Part E) that holds the circuit board (Part A) in place.

    • Tip: A magnetic-tip screwdriver is recommended to prevent losing the screw and to reduce static discharge risk.

  3. Extract the Circuit Board

    • Carefully pull out the circuit board by grabbing the metal battery casing (Part C).

    • Important: Avoid touching the circuit board directly.

  4. Remove the Old Battery

    • With the circuit board handled by its edges only, use a wooden or plastic tool to gently slide the old battery (Part D) out of its casing.

    • Note: Using plastic tools helps prevent static discharge.

  5. Insert the New Battery

    • Place the new CR2450 battery into the battery casing, ensuring the positive side (+) is facing up.

    • Reference: The positive side is usually marked with a (+) symbol.

  6. Reassemble the Sensor

    • Reinsert the circuit board into the sensor case, aligning the silver sensor chip (Part B) with the corresponding hole on the side of the black sensor case.

  7. Secure the Circuit Board

    • Reattach the small screw (Part E) to secure the circuit board to the sensor case.

    • Caution: Tighten the screw just enough to hold the board in place without over-tightening, which could damage the circuit board.

  8. Close the Sensor Case

    • Replace the outer screws on the sensor case to complete the assembly.
