LoRa Sensors Troubleshooting Guide

If your LoRaWAN sensors aren't transmitting data, follow these steps to resolve the issue

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Before getting started

Please make sure to have your tools ready!

  • A small Phillips head screwdriver

  • A new/replacement battery

  1. Verify Gateway Connection

    • Open the Jolt app and go to Sensors.

    • Ensure the gateway shows a recent reading (less than 5 minutes old). If it's offline, refer to the Gateway Troubleshooting guide.

  2. Verify Sensor connection

    • check the sensor details page in the Jolt app for a recent reading.

    • Check the sensor signal strength. Make sure it is in the green area—if the signal is in the red area, it might be causing the issue.

  3. Reboot/Reset Your Sensor

    • The first thing that we should do any time there is a sensor that is either not connecting, giving incorrect reading, or working improperly we should reboot the device. to do so:

      1. Carefully remove the battery from the device (see these instructions on how to replace the battery)

      2. Wait 60 seconds while remove the battery

      3. Place the battery back into the sensor after waiting 60 seconds(and replace the screw if necessary)

      4. Reactive the Sensor (models listed):

        • JRB 004: Shake the sensor back and forth 3 times to trigger it.

        • JRB 301: Open the sensor enclosure and reseat the battery (does not support shaking).

        • DLHT65, DLH65N: Hold the ACT button for 5 seconds until the sensor blinks green 5 times, then red, and finally shows a long green light. No long green light means the sensor couldn't connect. Verify the gateway is online.

  4. Replace Your Sensor's Battery

*Please note* Poor connection has the potential to cause above-average battery drain, your battery may be fresh but it will still need to be replaced before continuing with additional troubleshooting steps

  5. Inspect the sensor

    • Please make sure to inspect your device for any rust, corrosion, or physical damage. Take a photo of any issues you find so our technician can review it.Example:

  6. Contact Support

If the sensor still isn’t transmitting data after following these steps:

    • Contact Jolt Support for further assistance. Provide details about the sensor model, gateway status, and any troubleshooting steps you’ve already taken and the picture of the sensor.

    LoRa Sensors Connectivity FAQ

Q: How should I position and reset my sensor?

A:

  1. Position the Sensor:

    • Place it 10-15 feet from the gateway for a strong connection.

    • If it connects nearby but loses connection at a distance, there may be interference. Check Improving Sensor Signal Strength & Connectivity for tips.

  2. Reset the Sensor:

    • JRB 004: Shake the sensor back and forth 3 times.

    • JRB 301: Open the sensor enclosure and reseat the battery (does not support shaking).

    • DLHT65, DLH65N: Hold the ACT button for 5 seconds until it blinks green 5 times, then red, and finally shows a long green light. If the long green light doesn’t appear, ensure the gateway is online.

  3. Verify Connection:

    • After resetting, check the sensor details in the Jolt app for a recent reading.

    • If there’s no reading within 20 minutes, reset the sensor again and check in an hour. Sensors can sometimes take a few hours to send their first reading.

Q: What if the sensor still isn’t transmitting data after troubleshooting?

A: If you’ve tried all the above steps and the sensor isn’t working:

  • Contact Jolt Support. Provide details about the sensor model, gateway status, and the steps you’ve already taken.
