Why can’t I edit lists in my Content Group, and how can I resolve this?

Learn why you can’t edit lists in Content Groups in Jolt Software and how to resolve common issues related to mode settings, permissions, and list ownership.

Resolving Issues Editing Lists in Content Groups

Purpose

Help users understand why they may be unable to edit lists in a Content Group and how to resolve common permission and configuration issues.

Overview

In Jolt Software, list editing is affected by:

  • The mode the user is working in (Content Group vs Location)

  • Role-based permissions

  • The ownership of the list (where it was created)

If a list cannot be edited, it is typically due to one of these factors.

Common Reasons You Can’t Edit a List

1. Incorrect Mode

Lists are tied to a specific mode:

  • Content Group Mode: Shared across locations

  • Location Mode: Specific to one location

If you are in the wrong mode, the list may appear read-only.

2. Permission Restrictions

Some users do not have permission to edit Content Group-level lists.

In these cases:

  • Editing may be restricted to Company Admins

  • You may only have view access depending on your role

3. List Ownership Mismatch

A list created in one mode cannot be edited in another mode.

For example:

  • A Content Group list must be edited in Content Group mode

  • A Location list must be edited in Location mode

How to Resolve the Issue

Step 1: Check Your Mode

  • Confirm whether you are in Content Group or Location mode

  • Switch to the mode where the list was created

Step 2: Verify Permissions

  • Confirm your role has edit access for Content Group lists

  • If not, request access from a Company Admin

Step 3: Confirm List Location

  • Check whether the list belongs to Content Group or Location level

  • Open it in the correct context before editing

If You Still Cannot Edit

If the issue continues:

  • Confirm the list is not restricted by permissions

  • Check that you are in the correct mode and location context

  • Escalate to a Company Admin if access changes are required

Support Guidance

  • Always verify mode first before troubleshooting permissions

  • Treat most “cannot edit” issues as either mode mismatch or access restriction

  • Avoid unnecessary UI guidance unless specifically requested

  • Escalate when ownership or permissions are unclear
