Best Practices for Managing Sensor Alerts

  1. Regular Check-ins:

    • If you're setting notifications for others, ensure they communicate if they are receiving too many notifications. Regular check-ins can help prevent desensitization and ensure alerts remain actionable.

  2. Prioritize Critical Sensors:

    • Identify which sensors are most critical (e.g., temperature alerts for a Walk-In Cooler versus a secondary cooler). Set stricter alerts for critical sensors while making other alerts more forgiving to reduce notification volume.

  3. Focus on Critical Issues:

    • Adjust alerts to focus on the most critical issues that are true emergencies. Reduce the number of notifications for less urgent issues to avoid overwhelming your staff.

  4. Use Alerts Without Notifications:

    • Track important but non-critical issues by displaying them on your dashboard and event log without triggering notifications. Remove notifications for these issues and reserve notifications for emergencies.

For a Single Location

  1. Identify Problematic Sensors:

    • Determine which sensors and alert conditions are generating the most notifications. If you already know the problematic sensors, proceed to step 3.

    • Set the date range to the last 7 days or longer to gather sufficient data.

  3. Adjust Alert Settings:

    • If multiple alert settings exist for a sensor, identify which settings cause the most notifications and adjust them accordingly.

    • Use the data to determine appropriate thresholds for alerts, considering both current performance and historical data.

  4. Monitor Event Logs:

    • Review the event log to identify which sensors trigger the most events.

    • Adjust alert settings based on insights from the event log and graphs.

For Multiple Locations

  1. Use the Dashboard:

    • Jolt provides a dashboard on the web portal that highlights locations and sensors with the most issues.

    • Check sections like “Locations to Focus On” and “Sensors to Focus On” for a summary of alert data.

  2. Sort and Filter Alerts:

    • Click the column headers to sort by “Alerts This Week” and “Alerts Last Week” to identify sensors with the highest number of alerts.

    • Use the filter options to view specific types of alerts causing issues.

  3. Prioritize Locations:

    • Focus on locations with the highest number of alerts. Apply the single-location process to these high-alert areas for targeted adjustments.
