How to Replace Platen Roller Clips

The following article describes the process for replacing your platen roller clips on your Jolt Print Station (JPS) Printers.

Getting started

Tools:

  • New platen roller clips (if applicable)

  • 70% rubbing alcohol wipe or alcohol prep pad (optional)

Steps:

  1. Turn off and unplug the printer:

    • Make sure the printer is completely powered down and unplugged to avoid any risk.

  2. Open the printer cover:

    • Pull the latches on either side of the printer to open the cover and expose the inside.

  3. Remove media (if applicable):

    • Remove any media (Labels) from the printer to give yourself more room to work.

  4. Locate the platen roller:

    • The platen roller is the long black rubber roller that helps feed the media through the printer.


  5. Remove the platen roller:

    • There are usually two small clips or latches on either end of the platen roller.

    • Use your fingers to gently lift these clips. Be careful not to damage the surrounding components.

  6. Slide the platen roller out:

    • Once the clips are lifted, you should be able to gently slide the platen roller up and out of its position.

  7. Replace the platen roller clips:

    • If you need to replace the clips, carefully detach the old clips from their slots.

      • the left clip has a plastic gear, pull that gear gently from the roller.

    • Insert the new clips into place, making sure they are secure.

      • the plastic gear needs to be placed on the end with the flat metal portion

  8. Clean the platen roller channel with alcohol wipe or lint-free cloth:

    • it is important that the platen roller channel is free of any debris. please make sure to wipe the inside of the platen roller channel with an alcohol wipe or lint-free cloth.


  9. Reinstall the platen roller:

    • Align the platen roller with the clips and gently slide it back into position. The roller should click into place when seated correctly.

  10. Close the printer cover:

    • Lower the printer cover gently and ensure that it clicks shut.

  11. Test the printer:

    • Plug the printer back in and turn it on. Run a test print to ensure the platen roller and clips are working properly
